A Faint Whirr Of Wings (Poetry)
22nd October 2025
There — ever-present
as though the air sings
soft humming along
a faint whirr of wings
far off in the blue
like insects or birds
untiring it thrums
a slight change of note
it goes and it comes
yet penetrates through
as steady as rain
in days pencilled in
grey like a tune when
the music runs thin
near-silent tattoo . . .
. . . then rolls round again
a cricket’s high chirr
that’s carried aloft
as rhythms transfer
revive or subdue
some radio wave
that Nature’s devised
it teases the ears
the mind’s tantalized
old echoes renew
as though the air sings
soft humming along
a faint whirr of wings
far off in the blue
like insects or birds
untiring it thrums
a slight change of note
it goes and it comes
yet penetrates through
as steady as rain
in days pencilled in
grey like a tune when
the music runs thin
near-silent tattoo . . .
. . . then rolls round again
a cricket’s high chirr
that’s carried aloft
as rhythms transfer
revive or subdue
some radio wave
that Nature’s devised
it teases the ears
the mind’s tantalized
old echoes renew
