A Flawed Philosophy (Poetry)

05th May 2019
What did we think we were doing
when we handed out free love?
What dreams were we pursuing? —
did we hear a voice above
telling those of us in earshot
to have sex instead of war? —
some eccentric hippy crackpot
no one follows anymore

Inhibitions shed with clothing
life had never been such fun
we buried anger, fear and loathing
loved our brothers — every one
and all the while that feeling lasted
the warm illusion shone ...
but it paled — the season wasted
come the winter love was gone
