A Life Imagined (Poetry)

11th July 2021
I wake alone at break of day
and walk on some deserted beach
the sea sings to an opal sky
the salt breeze damp upon my cheek

No pressure here — no ticking clock
or nagging voice to prompt a sigh
the cluttered world left far behind
without a qualm — no tears to dry

The morning stretches quiet and calm
I have no plans and little needs
for life is simple — thought runs free
and grows imagination’s seeds

I have four walls, a roof, a bed
a garden plot to reap and sow
I live my dream as evening comes
to wrap me in warm sunset’s glow

I am content. I’ve no regrets
there’s nothing can compare with peace
this heaven’s isolated state
has banished fear — old worries cease

And sleep comes easy — night is kind
each dawn a gift with promise tied
and time is in the season’s care
I throw the future’s window wide
