A Life More Simple (Poetry)

I saw a swallow
waiting on a fence
keen for the signal
to take off and fly
south for the winter

I know that feeling
pent up and ready
charged for the journey
winging through darkness
the long way back home

Feathered travellers
share the leaving point
gather impressions
to carry with them
souvenir lifelines

Morning’s departure
the whole day pending
for wild adventure
then night unending
the ultimate rest

A gliding downwards
to touch a shoreline
that’s warm with welcome
those waters teeming
with life’s simple needs
