A Song For Edith (Poetry)

16th April 2023
Fanciful creature
invented for fun
a will o’ the wisp
God made only one
as fleeting as she

Girlhood’s sweet poem
her laughter’s bright chime
echoed between each
so full-of-life line
ethereally

An essay in lace
and silk stockings sheer
her heart-stopping smile
would coyly appear
enrapturing me

Her butterfly days
with fashion’s full flare
kaleidoscope beads
and flower-decked hair
love given for free

Too soon her song’s done
the final note played
she slipped from the sun
to rest in the shade
of memory’s tree
