A Sorry Sheep (Poetry)
13th September 2026
Excuse me, please — I cannot see
this shaggy fleece obstructs both eyes
blind as a bat so obviously
I cannot tell the truth from lies
I’d claim an allergy to wool
that’s wound so thickly and so tight
but some allow that tug and pull
which plunges them in witless night
I pay attention to the news
and heed the sheepdog’s fascist bark
I take on board most lamb-like views
and keep rogue conscience in the dark
I don’t resist — I play along
the object is to stay alive
I’m not a lion — brave and strong
so I kowtow just to survive
Forgive my cowardice and don’t
ask me to make a stand and fight
I’m so conditioned that I won’t
know fact from fiction — left from right
this shaggy fleece obstructs both eyes
blind as a bat so obviously
I cannot tell the truth from lies
I’d claim an allergy to wool
that’s wound so thickly and so tight
but some allow that tug and pull
which plunges them in witless night
I pay attention to the news
and heed the sheepdog’s fascist bark
I take on board most lamb-like views
and keep rogue conscience in the dark
I don’t resist — I play along
the object is to stay alive
I’m not a lion — brave and strong
so I kowtow just to survive
Forgive my cowardice and don’t
ask me to make a stand and fight
I’m so conditioned that I won’t
know fact from fiction — left from right
