A Spark Of Comfort (Poetry)
17th March 2019
Remember the homeless at Christmas
as you snuggle down warm in your bed
and the wind whistles shrill on the hillside
think of those who are cold and unfed
When you sit at your bright festive table
and tuck in to roast turkey so brown
spare a thought for the ones who go hungry
on the streets of the prosperous town
Say a prayer for the lost and the lonely
throw your crumbs to feed birds on the lawn
find a gift fit to take to the stable
where the king of compassion’s new-born
and strong faith’s a magnificent angel
fresh hope rising wonderously tall
while amidst the rejoicing and clamour
simple charity’s greatest of all
for her modest light shines through the darkness
her kind Christian spirit aglow
as she hands bowls of soup to the homeless
it’s the one spark of comfort they know
as you snuggle down warm in your bed
and the wind whistles shrill on the hillside
think of those who are cold and unfed
When you sit at your bright festive table
and tuck in to roast turkey so brown
spare a thought for the ones who go hungry
on the streets of the prosperous town
Say a prayer for the lost and the lonely
throw your crumbs to feed birds on the lawn
find a gift fit to take to the stable
where the king of compassion’s new-born
and strong faith’s a magnificent angel
fresh hope rising wonderously tall
while amidst the rejoicing and clamour
simple charity’s greatest of all
for her modest light shines through the darkness
her kind Christian spirit aglow
as she hands bowls of soup to the homeless
it’s the one spark of comfort they know
