A Star Is Born (Poetry)

30th April 2023
Somewhere far, far out in space
a star is born
a secret held safe in its heart
it gathers to itself unrivalled glory
spins and weaves the dust the darkness gave
and turns it into light’s spellbinding story

That birth foretold by ancients
nameless spirits
who trekked the heavens searching for a sign
believing God’s machine was oiled by science
cogs roll round — invisible — all comes about
at its appointed time

Metamorphism complete — the particles combined
to a celestial state
and moving now — released from its black womb
curves off on its long unmapped path of flight
destiny’s trajectory a determined beam
cutting through the gloom

Out-shining all it passes on the way
a lamp of portent in the sky’s great multitude
of lesser bodies crowding
but nowhere near as brilliant they’re outclassed
while night holds still and holy as the star
claims its place
                        and blazes down
                                                at last
