A Thousand Degrees Of Separation (Poetry)
14th May 2019
I would love to visit you tonight
find you wherever you are in the world
and feel that old spark
reignite the passion we once had ...
then doubts creep in —
you probably remember it differently —
maybe you hardly remember me
at all — a name you struggle
to put a face to
the recollection grown hazy —
nothing poignant that gives
a sudden little stab to the heart
releasing a sigh
a whisper of regret ...
No no — it’s more likely
I am a blank space
in your loving hall of fame
a blip in your progress
on the road
to a happy ever after
But I remember you —
at least I think I do
perhaps it’s all too long ago
to be sure of what I felt
except my heart melts
when I imagine us
together
again
find you wherever you are in the world
and feel that old spark
reignite the passion we once had ...
then doubts creep in —
you probably remember it differently —
maybe you hardly remember me
at all — a name you struggle
to put a face to
the recollection grown hazy —
nothing poignant that gives
a sudden little stab to the heart
releasing a sigh
a whisper of regret ...
No no — it’s more likely
I am a blank space
in your loving hall of fame
a blip in your progress
on the road
to a happy ever after
But I remember you —
at least I think I do
perhaps it’s all too long ago
to be sure of what I felt
except my heart melts
when I imagine us
together
again
