About An 'Other' (Poetry)

05th September 2021
I dare not need an ‘other’
for comfort or for play
need builds itself a prison
where no one gets away

There’s danger in relying
too much on any ‘one’
call down the moon some sleepless night
odds on she’ll fail to come

While stars have good intentions
there’s wishes that get lost
thus disillusioned lovers
pay out the lonely cost

Too vulnerable — exposing
a needy heart that way
far better in the long run aim
for independence day
