Adverse (Poetry)

I think (as many people do)
he wrote that verse for me (and you)
and all those fucked-up kids who spend
lives slowly going round the bend
and never know exactly why
they laugh when deep inside they cry.

Most other creatures do it best —
have kids at Mother N’s behest
rear them, train them — kick them out
no real abuse to shout about
while Nature might be cruel and stern
her credo’s plain — just grow and learn.

But people (parents) aren’t so kind
they fuck with feelings — screw the mind
and do the most appalling job
(enough to make a hard man sob)
and fill their offspring day by day
with grief that never goes away.

Along with eccentricities
perversions, quirks, odd maladies
bizarre convictions loathed and feared
that none may speak of (way too weird)
there’s simply those who shouldn’t breed
or pass on maladjusted seed.

But generations stand in line
convince themselves they’re doing fine
ignore the doubt that haunts the brain —
bi-polar tests might prove insane...
one tiny pill will see them right
or else they’ll lie awake all night.
