Affinity (Poetry)
22nd May 2011
The moment you walked in the room I knew —
the way the tide is tugged at by the moon
I felt the breath within me draining through
my gaping mouth — all reason followed soon —
my emptied fragile vessel waiting for
your touch to fire me — thrill me to the core.
It was as though I recognised your light —
the soul within that glowed and dazzled me —
and thus I circled — bound to keep in sight
your image dominating silently
and drawing like a magnet to your side
my kindred spirit — heart thrown open wide.
The wonder in me trembled like a leaf —
every atom sang the same sweet song
and passion’s river flooded — drowned all grief —
those sorrows I had nursed for far too long —
and joy rose like a fountain in the sun —
sparkling with a life-force newly-sprung.
What made our planets suddenly align?
What universal law came into play?
Was I your destiny or were you mine?
What happened in that instant — on that day?
My world dissolved — the stars were at my feet —
all wounds were healed — the change became complete.
How close in hopes and dreams two minds can grow —
sharing space — two halves that make a whole
acknowledging the miracle — one throw
of dice thought random — melding soul to soul
and burning with a true and steady flame
unimagined — ’til the day you came.
the way the tide is tugged at by the moon
I felt the breath within me draining through
my gaping mouth — all reason followed soon —
my emptied fragile vessel waiting for
your touch to fire me — thrill me to the core.
It was as though I recognised your light —
