Alien (Poetry)

Strange embryo concealed in human flesh,
the monster grows, malevolent and sly;
cruel cuckoo who invades and so infests
a makeshift womb. The hapless host will die,

uncomprehending, in the throes of birth;
unwittingly engender foreign spawn
errupting with a shrill, revolting curse:
a parasite in vile, demonic form.

Its alien biology unknown;
a hybrid progeny whose genesis -
unholy graft of acid-blood and bone-
was nurtured in some twilight-zone abyss.

Its drooling jaws agape, revealing teeth
in lethal rows that menace, gnash the air,
it scuttles, finds dim sanctuary beneath
the undercarriage, coldly waiting there

and picking off the crew. The terror grows
as, one by one, it proves itself supreme,
outwits its prey - the last survivor knows
in deepest space no one can hear you scream.

The nightmare lurks and hisses in the gloom
while main control counts down to self-destruct,
the shuttle leaves the fated ship, assumes
the predator will perish in the flux.

But stowed away- its cunning far beyond
what's classified - this creature with no name
is finally destroyed and jettisoned
into the freezing void from whence it came.
