All Things (Poetry)

29th December 2013
All things dull and unattractive
all critters large and squat
all things weird in our perspective
someone made the lot.

Someone with a sense of humour
had the platypus in mind
and the yeti born from rumour
baffles most of dumb mankind.

Some get eaten — tender creatures
destined for the dinner plate.
They’ve evolved such tasty features
nothing saves them from that fate.

But there’s some defy all reason —
what their point is none can guess
surviving season after season
stubborn in their uselessness.

Things so strange few could conceive of
were begat from life’s long chain —
monsters you would not believe of
squirmed — became extinct again.

Was it planned or just impulsive?
Who exactly is to blame
for all that’s ugly and repulsive —
where’s he hiding — what’s his name?

All things dim and not-so-pretty
all critters over-fat or thin
designer rejects saved for pity.
Scheduled for recycling.
