Almost Famous (Poetry)
25th March 2012
I’m not the girl I used to be —
old friend — once daughter — only child
I changed my name and grew half-wild
that shadow was no longer me.
I learned my lines — a lesser part —
it was a mediocre play —
I skipped the last act — ran away
adventure in my heart.
No one guessed my master plan
saw through my meek and mild disguise
or glimpsed beneath lid-lowered eyes
what fire in my veins ran.
I broke the chain and leapt the fence
mad keen on love and everything
that fame and luck together bring
to make some difference.
But time has changed the world somehow
doubt has greyed my golden hair
faith has vanished — God knows where —
I’m almost famous now.
old friend — once daughter — only child
I changed my name and grew half-wild
that shadow was no longer me.
I learned my lines — a lesser part —
it was a mediocre play —
I skipped the last act — ran away
adventure in my heart.
No one guessed my master plan
saw through my meek and mild disguise
or glimpsed beneath lid-lowered eyes
what fire in my veins ran.
I broke the chain and leapt the fence
mad keen on love and everything
that fame and luck together bring
to make some difference.
But time has changed the world somehow
doubt has greyed my golden hair
faith has vanished — God knows where —
I’m almost famous now.
