Amber (Poetry)

30th July 2006
Trapped in its sticky sap of affection,
your memory sets to jewel-like clarity -
a fly in amber, smothered by an overpowering
sweetness gradually congealing,
sealing fate.

Love's sudden, random drowning
over soon, the struggle brief;
that lazy liquid kiss the fault of gravity's
romantic theory.

Unable to resist the flow,
the downward wave of warmth
embalmed the fly in resin's
quiet show case.

Perfection's frozen form remains
untouchable as art,
maintains a careful distance;
reflective silence

with a time capsule's perspective
on our history -
that semi-precious moment now
an ambered bead of thought.
