Anon (Poetry)
02nd June 2009
I shouldn’t put my name to this —
it isn’t mine —
I found it like a stray outside my door
I fed it ink and paper but
it wouldn’t go —
just hung around me begging for some more.
It’s just a common mongrel not
a pedigree —
it hasn’t got a collar — there’s no clue
to tell me where it came from — now
I’m stuck with it —
so what’s a simple poet s’posed to do?
I’ve given it a wash and brush —
it’s tidy now
but still without identity it sits
patient and abandoned — hoping
someone else
will claim it with a name that truly fits.
