Another Self (Poetry)
20th April 2014
Once I had another self
but we’ve lost touch.
Now I don’t think about her
overmuch.
The dreams we shared all severed —
cut and dried.
She took the vision with her —
my light died.
She lives on in a city
far away.
Still young and strong — unchanged
by each new day.
She is immortal yet
sometimes in sleep
I catch her echo — hear her
sigh and weep
as though she misses me —
the girl I was
clouded in her memory
because
I’m not the same — cruel years
have dimmed my eye.
Youth left one night and never
said goodbye.
but we’ve lost touch.
Now I don’t think about her
overmuch.
The dreams we shared all severed —
cut and dried.
She took the vision with her —
my light died.
She lives on in a city
far away.
Still young and strong — unchanged
by each new day.
She is immortal yet
sometimes in sleep
I catch her echo — hear her
sigh and weep
as though she misses me —
the girl I was
clouded in her memory
because
I’m not the same — cruel years
have dimmed my eye.
Youth left one night and never
said goodbye.
