Aren't You That Poet? (Poetry)

Recognition or
accusation? How
can one know what’s best —
nod and smile or make
a bolt for cover?

A tricky role to
pull off well and not
end up going verse
over limerick
in the confusion

And I find myself
admitting rather
resentfully — no
I s’pose it’s not what’s
termed a ‘proper’ job

The most frugal of
church mice could not live
on such poor earnings ...
An autograph? why
I’d be delighted!

Should I dedicate
it to anyone?
Your mum’s a fan — oh
