Assignation (Poetry)

09th September 2012
Alone and waiting for the one
tonight has lasted many years
the moon hangs patiently nearby
on look-out.

I do not smoke
and air’s too warm to signal breath
an unexplained and perfect ring goes floating up —
a thought he might not come...

while I stay chained to passion’s rock —
yet I came this way too willingly
believing he desired from me
some sacrifice as proof.

I look for signs in everything —
pray with a hurt wild voice until
my tongue is aching, shrivelled, dumb...
No miracle appears — no god

or monster hungry for the life
I offer as the waves sing like a choir
my marriage and my funeral dirge —
two for one — perverse this need for pain.
