Astral (Poetry)

20th July 2011
She slipped from the platform with hardly a sound
the wheels took her roughly and whirled her around —
spread her for miles — scraps absorbed by the ground
while her soul floated free in the hum

of the air split in passing — the train city-bound
the romance of travel cross country to town —
the spin and the rush and the smoke as it wound
through the trees — all that distance undone...

Haunted by rhythm her consciousness rode
in the slipstream of motion — an afterthought towed
along like a carriage — a spark of her glowed
while the dragon that ate her flew on.

She’s there in the sunlight — the moonlight — she sowed
all her atoms like seeds — felt the moment explode —
she’s mapped in the stars and has learnt a new code
and the ache in her heart is long-gone.
