At the Crematorium (Poetry)

09th September 2012
You had the company of sisters — I had none
you were the one I shared my troubles with —
what I’ll do now — now that you are gone
I can’t imagine — but no doubt I’ll live.

It isn’t fair on either you or me —
I pity us, and here’s the sorry joke —
today our friendship ended awfully
all fifty years of us gone up in smoke.
