Auntie Beeb's Bully-Boys (Poetry)

I have not bought a license
for I never watch TV
but that doesn’t stop the bullies
at her nasty agency

They write as though I’m guilty
of a criminal offence
though I’ve told them umpteen times before
it makes no difference

They’re so intimidating
with dire threats of what they’ll do
like they’re certain I have hidden
TV sets the whole place through

Yet I haven’t watched a broadcast
not in donkey’s years or more
still they say they’re sending someone
who’ll come knocking on my door

They state they’ll get a warrant
like they have authority
to behave as thugs on the behalf
of Auntie BBC

They pretend they’ve got some power —
such bold posturing’s all bluff
they’re just faceless, nameless windbags
but they surely scare enough

of more vulnerable victims
to cough up extortion’s fee
despite they have no need to
but who cares? increasingly

And why tolerate behaviour
that in children we abhor? —
telling lies laced through with menace —
bully tactics nothing more

With the Government determined
to turn a deaf/blind eye
while the ghost of Orwell’s watching
Free-view channels in the sky

Hence I will not buy a license
I’ve no taste for live TV
and I won’t go on repeating it
unlike the BBC!
