Avalanche (Poetry)

06th October 2019
I found a cave
high on the side
of love’s
forbidden mountain
the days went by
the nights all flew
until I just
stopped counting

Passion had me
wrapped around
in layers of
emotion
I felt no chill
the wind-whipped snow
a perfect winter
potion

The avalanche
that buried me
was sudden as
a gun shot
dazed and slow
I struggled free
puzzling to
know what

the weather had
carved out of me
the ache inside
rang hollow
love now
a frozen memory
where footsteps
cannot follow

The blizzard stings
the wind is raw
and nowhere
offers cover
there is no sign
of change or thaw
that little cave’s
iced over
