Avoiding The Swim (Poetry)

26th January 2026
I live the life aquatic — born
to drift and dream my days
beneath the world’s dark current — so
avoid it rushing ways

Down here the pace is measured by
base instinct’s need and whim
all influence slow-filtered — thus
unsullied by the swim

of fevered souls so frantic that
they thrash the waters wild
I watch from calm’s long distance — stay
discrete and undefiled

from all that flimflam-flurry — dodge
the gobbling city hordes
I’d rather taste the simple fare
sub-urban life affords

So sink under the surface — deep
and blending dumb as stone
I wait the flood just as before
each bubbling thought my own
