Awaiting Recovery (Poetry)

13th September 2026
I am a bone
with a piece of flesh
an aging brain
with a drifting thought
my heart is a hook
where old scraps of love
hang their apologies
randomly caught

Limbs cannot read
eyes cannot walk
fingers too frail
to grasp what they could
skin is unable
to carry its weight
nothing is working
the outlook’s not good

The day passes slow
counting each breath
waiting for something —
a signal — a sign
recovery’s coming
rebuilding the wreck
might take forever
I’m on borrowed time

Seized with impatience
I’m longing to fly
my wings are dismantled
grey feathers in shreds
memories haunt me
pain maps wasted life
the wine bottle’s empty
a ghost sips the dregs
