Beneath (Poetry)

02nd July 2025
Beneath the tree beneath the mountain
all beneath the grainy sky
far above a god reclining
wipes a tear from one blind eye

Sees beneath the tree a body
where the mountain casts its shade
and the sky in rags of mourning
grieves for her — a country maid

where she hangs so still and lonely
from a tree that bears no blame
yonder mountain frowns in sorrow
hears the god breathe soft her name

Love’s sweet/awful tale unfolding
tree and mountain echo grief
roiling sky with god ascending
leave the tragedy beneath
