Big Brother (Poetry)
17th June 2012
Big Brother’s always watching us —
in the office, on the bus,
on the beach or in the park,
in the light, or after dark —
there are no shadows where his eyes
can’t penetrate, and so it’s wise
to play along and make no fuss.
Big Brother’s always watching us —
he’s with us every place we go,
notes times and dates, and who we know,
the films we watch, the books we read
our politics, our sex, our creed
are all on file — statistics fed
show up who’s green, who’s blue, who’s red
in black and white. Don’t rant and cuss —
just play along and make no fuss.
Big Brother’s always watching us —
he cramps our style, we can’t discuss
or voice opinions non- PC,
and freedom’s virtual fantasy
now that the Internet’s policed
and true democracy deceased.
But play along and make no fuss —
Big Brother’s close, and watching us.
in the office, on the bus,
on the beach or in the park,
in the light, or after dark —
there are no shadows where his eyes
can’t penetrate, and so it’s wise
to play along and make no fuss.
Big Brother’s always watching us —
he’s with us every place we go,
notes times and dates, and who we know,
the films we watch, the books we read
our politics, our sex, our creed
are all on file — statistics fed
show up who’s green, who’s blue, who’s red
in black and white. Don’t rant and cuss —
just play along and make no fuss.
Big Brother’s always watching us —
he cramps our style, we can’t discuss
or voice opinions non- PC,
and freedom’s virtual fantasy
now that the Internet’s policed
and true democracy deceased.
But play along and make no fuss —
Big Brother’s close, and watching us.
