Blizzard (Poetry)
01st June 2016
Bursting from darkness the white flakes came falling
like the angels were shedding their fine winter coats
shaking out massive wings somewhere high on the mountain
a raw northern wind howling deep from their throats.
Flakes swirled in the gutters and gathered on rooftops
smothering streets, slowly burying fields
the landscape embalmed in a smooth sterile ground sheet
as Death’s disappearing act slickly concealed ...
Fierce the wind’s conjuring — keeping time frozen
trees leaned their thin silhouettes tricked out in white
the flakes whirled and eddied like there was no stopping them —
a torrent of feathers in dizzying flight.
like the angels were shedding their fine winter coats
shaking out massive wings somewhere high on the mountain
a raw northern wind howling deep from their throats.
