Bound To Fall (Poetry)

21st July 2019
Every family has its secrets
no one mentions — dares to name
things they feel are best forgotten
to save embarrassment and shame

But some secrets won’t stay buried
like an onion truth is peeled
from the past — and old deceptions
find the light — those lies revealed

And the damage can’t be mended
there’s no way to make things right
when betrayal’s undefended
nothing soothes the poisoned bite

Then each memory is tainted
former loyalties all undone
secrets planted cruel as landmines
the unwary stumble on

The outsider sees the danger
safe observing — knows it all —
every family’s dark secrets
like an empire bound to fall
