Life hangs by such a slender thread
that can be torn so easily
and yet we hardly heed the threat
but live our lives quite breezily
as though we never really think
Fate might decide we’ve lived our fill
and snatch away the time we had
put by to do with as we will
We don’t imagine Life might deal
a losing hand while in full play
despite the inner voice that warns
our luck can change — swing either way
We dangle helpless on a string
that blows in winds we can’t resist
it’s no surprise from time to time
the strands get tangled — bound to twist
It’s more amazing how we cling
and trust the link to all we know
of how we ever came to be
but have no clue to when we’ll go
that can be torn so easily
and yet we hardly heed the threat
but live our lives quite breezily
as though we never really think
Fate might decide we’ve lived our fill
and snatch away the time we had
put by to do with as we will
We don’t imagine Life might deal
a losing hand while in full play
despite the inner voice that warns
our luck can change — swing either way
We dangle helpless on a string
that blows in winds we can’t resist
it’s no surprise from time to time
the strands get tangled — bound to twist
It’s more amazing how we cling
and trust the link to all we know
of how we ever came to be
but have no clue to when we’ll go
