Can It Be True? (Poetry)
15th June 2020
Can it be true — we’ve learnt nothing
from this? — the darkest lesson since the war
Will we simply filter back and live our lives
exactly as before?
It seems we are incapable of
picking grains of wheat
from storms of chaff
and we blindly soldier on — cling stubbornly
to a wrong and bloody path
Can it be true we fail to see the senselessness
in failing to adapt?
Or are we truly blinkered by the foggy clouds
of lies
in which we’re wrapped?
So few appear to see the light that flashes
its red warning up ahead
It’s time to find a new approach — rethink
the route — be wise before we’re dead
We cannot trust the rich man’s voice — his lust
for fame and power never cools
It can’t be true we’re all such sheep —
a bleating planetful of selfish fools!
