Cat (Poetry)

I love the way you sit
with such a bored disdainful air
and watch the world go by
as though you’ve not one single care
and you’ve really no concern at all
for the affairs of men
and count yourself a lucky cat
you’re not the least like them.

Completely independent —
you come and go at will
accept both food and shelter
but keep your freedom still.
Aloof and enigmatic —
entirely your own cat
and you look at me as if you know
how much I envy that.
