I lost my way when mist blew in
I spent some years alone
between grey walls that kept their drab
and plainly joyless tone
Mine was a house no ghost would haunt
for they’d be bored to death
no challenge there — my frozen nights
could match them breath for breath
My heartsong had its lyric set
in melancholy vein
it would not quicken from a dirge
nor vary its dull pain
I drank a potion from a cup
I’d never used before
and woke up three days later on
my freezing bathroom floor
I hardly could believe the change
unconscious and unmissed
what reason might provoke a smile
as unrehearsed as this?
I’m sure there must be many tales
more interesting than mine
the tiles are falling off my roof
I’m certified divine
I spent some years alone
between grey walls that kept their drab
and plainly joyless tone
Mine was a house no ghost would haunt
for they’d be bored to death
no challenge there — my frozen nights
could match them breath for breath
My heartsong had its lyric set
in melancholy vein
it would not quicken from a dirge
nor vary its dull pain
I drank a potion from a cup
I’d never used before
and woke up three days later on
my freezing bathroom floor
I hardly could believe the change
unconscious and unmissed
what reason might provoke a smile
as unrehearsed as this?
I’m sure there must be many tales
more interesting than mine
the tiles are falling off my roof
I’m certified divine
