Charity Shop (Poetry)
04th November 2012
These shelves are full of memories —
small treasures of the years
gathered — they reflect past lives —
brought happiness and tears —
faint echoes from those yesterdays
remembered — cherished dear —
these souvenirs which meant so much
passed on — now orphaned here.
Imagination plays awhile —
thoughts invent and name
the former owners of each thing
and why and how it came
to be donated — up for sale
supporting a good cause —
the circle turns and life goes on
with barely a brief pause...
Each modest thing was precious once —
gave pleasure — had its place
somewhere — maybe brought a smile
to warm nostalgia’s face...
It’s more than charity to buy
it’s kindness, too, to own
and thereby save — adopt lost dreams
and give them a good home.
