Child Of Snow (Poetry)
19th September 2021
You were a perfect child of snow
I dreamed your soul was white
and spotless for the gift I know
that fell one winter’s night
So pure and uncorrupted then
with such simplicity
of form and nature blending when
you came to dazzle me
You were untouchable somehow
your skin too cool to bleed
while love preserves you even now
and gives the strength I need
to soothe the everlasting shock
the emptiness I felt
I didn’t hear the stranger knock
or see you turn and melt
You left a splinter in my heart
that warns against the cold
I grieve for frost as years depart
and sun unpicks the old
I dreamed your soul was white
and spotless for the gift I know
that fell one winter’s night
So pure and uncorrupted then
with such simplicity
of form and nature blending when
you came to dazzle me
You were untouchable somehow
your skin too cool to bleed
while love preserves you even now
and gives the strength I need
to soothe the everlasting shock
the emptiness I felt
I didn’t hear the stranger knock
or see you turn and melt
You left a splinter in my heart
that warns against the cold
I grieve for frost as years depart
and sun unpicks the old
