Class Of '67 (Poetry)

04th December 2016
Where are they now? — those bright-eyed girls —
those pulsing young-blood things
who shared the classroom’s stuffy cage
before they spread glad wings
and scattered on their lifelong quests
with hearts and minds set free
in search of some elusive prize —
their hidden destiny.

Where did they go? How did they fare? —
all swallowed by the blue
those faces stay forever-fresh
the giggling girls I knew
back in the sixties’ heady rush
of images and noise
when all we cared about was Pop
fab fashion trends — and boys!

That last day of the summer term
we said goodbye and then
we all went off to start new lives
and never met again.
The years roll on and I recall
their names nostalgically
and wonder if they do the same
and sometimes think of me.
