Cognitive Behaviour (Poetry)

We’ve slipped out of sequence
it was tricky to spot
strict order’s essential
it’s all that we’ve got

We’re dancing by numbers
most function by rote
we must avoid random
risk scuppers the boat

Statistics once ruled us
but old school proved wrong
so it’s vital we follow
a new marching song

We’re cogs in the system
small wheels spinning round
worn down by sheer worry
that teeth-grinding sound

Now slipping and sliding
under viral attack
we just have to keep moving
we dare not look back
