Cold Moons (Poetry)
24th March 2013
You are distant now, a faint glimmer in my night
and I miss your warmth, the comfort of your light
and energy — I counted on its glow
for my reward, I doubt you’ll ever know
the loneliness of space, the shock of being flung
like a spent, dull moon unwanted by its sun.
This void teems with ghosts — the dust of dead stars
circling their loss, blind to where they are.
I have no orbit since you spun your love away,
I’m clinging to the edge, everything is grey.
Your beauty draws new friends, fresh satellites —
fire never fails to attract and excite
so round and around in your galaxy you go,
the hub of a wheel, your planets cannot know
how soon you might cool, turn away your light
and cast off cold moons, leave them to the night.
and I miss your warmth, the comfort of your light
and energy — I counted on its glow
for my reward, I doubt you’ll ever know
the loneliness of space, the shock of being flung
like a spent, dull moon unwanted by its sun.
