Colours Of Christmas (Poetry)

Trees gift us their green
Heaven offers blue
Each candle flame’s gold
Rich colours shine through
Inspire Winter’s scene

Church windows gleam bold
How welcome the glow
Crisp rhythms of feet
On soft-layered snow
Lilac sheets spread cold

Opal skies retreat
Under dark’s attack
Random shafts of light
Scissor forth and back
Outrun in defeat

First star shown tonight
Clear as crystal’s fire
Heralds love’s event
Royal David’s choir
In angelic flight

Silver their descent
Trails of glory spun
Magical the hush
As God’s newborn son
Sleeps so innocent
