Cutting (Poetry)

19th May 2013
They’ve ‘cut’ themselves — all in good fun —
they’re practising for Halloween
with sticky blood — each scarlet run
adds drama to their gory scene.

Dead cute their humour — sharp as knives
the scissor sisters’ pantomime
bold girlish pranks to liven lives —
a snicker-snap of horror-time.

A little scary as they stare
relishing with ghoulish glee
those visitors caught unaware
unsettled by fake butchery.

It’s just a game and nothing more —
some Hammer-spoof tomfoolery —
the blood cleaned up by half past four
then, good as gold, back home for tea.
