Dead Flowers (Poetry)
06th November 2022
We flower children of the sixties
believed what guru Lenny said
you do a line — you live forever
but now we’re old and some are dead
It’s a shock to read the headlines
another god of music gone
obituaries that read like fiction
while nostalgia’s beat goes on
They were icons in their heyday
kings of rock who ruled the waves
and they touched the lives of millions
gathered in like willing slaves
They were touchless in their heaven
all their creed was writ in song
and the faithful bought the vinyl
volume up then chilled along ...
Few remain who’ve had such power
doomed impossibly to fall
by the year... the day... the hour
so not immortal after all
believed what guru Lenny said
you do a line — you live forever
but now we’re old and some are dead
It’s a shock to read the headlines
another god of music gone
obituaries that read like fiction
while nostalgia’s beat goes on
They were icons in their heyday
kings of rock who ruled the waves
and they touched the lives of millions
gathered in like willing slaves
They were touchless in their heaven
all their creed was writ in song
and the faithful bought the vinyl
volume up then chilled along ...
Few remain who’ve had such power
doomed impossibly to fall
by the year... the day... the hour
so not immortal after all
