Deciphering The Elements (Poetry)

01st January 2026
In need of signs
I search the sky
and stare hard at the moon
who stares right back
her milky eye
investigates my room
What night is this?
I question her
although she wanders blind
ensnared in some romantic bliss
no earthly axe
to grind

She lets a cloud
slow-kiss her face
and linger in her glow
careless of that brief embrace
she seems to shrug
and show
no answering affection
as night winds blow away
the last scraps of illusion —
no sign that hope
holds sway

I light a candle
on the sill
and count the stars again
feel a chill
upon my cheek
that sanctifies my pain
write a prayer
on misted glass
where warm breath
touches cold
then all the words
together run
with messages
                        untold
