Demonstration (Poetry)

09th June 2024
The wind it made a fearful noise
screamed loud as troops in battle
it beat brute fists against the glass
and made the roof tiles rattle

This gale in a blind fury blew
and shook the walls in warning
it circled round the sleepless night
bid slow retreat by morning

Its cruel assault left debris strewn
the limbs of trees wide-scattered
the vanquished bowed their heads for shame
defenceless saplings shattered

                        *****

Such wars are waged at Nature’s whim
no provocation needed
the winner never in much doubt
swift victory’s conceded

Come hurricane or forest fire
each violent disaster
demonstrates repeatedly
such power proves who’s master

Why add to all the misery
with mankind’s acts of war
when mountains split, the oceans heave
and tides knock at our door?
