Dew Pond (Poetry)
14th September 2024
It came and went
as fleeting as a thought
this waterspill — this tiny landlocked sea
arriving in one gusty rainsoaked night
and drowning plants so quick and casually
Dewsprung and fresh
it glittered in the grass
as though a mirage — a mere trick of light
a shift in Dawn’s perception — Nature’s blink
a pool of tears green-tinged and morning-bright
Sun drank it up
struck with a mighty thirst
the edges shrank — heat sucked it into air
so pond became slime’s puddle — its damp rink
as brief as insect lives that skated there
as fleeting as a thought
this waterspill — this tiny landlocked sea
arriving in one gusty rainsoaked night
and drowning plants so quick and casually
Dewsprung and fresh
it glittered in the grass
as though a mirage — a mere trick of light
a shift in Dawn’s perception — Nature’s blink
a pool of tears green-tinged and morning-bright
Sun drank it up
struck with a mighty thirst
the edges shrank — heat sucked it into air
so pond became slime’s puddle — its damp rink
as brief as insect lives that skated there
