Divided (Poetry)
15th March 2022
I’m half in one place — half another
I feel I’m inbetween two worlds
drawn to each — a part-time lover
passion streaks my sunset’s clouds
I drift among the hearts I’ve broken
kiss the lips of those I’ve left
recalling the rash vows once spoken
joy was giving — need was theft
I cannot touch the flesh I’m missing
time has whittled to the bone
love’s old well’s too deep for wishing
these stranger days I drink alone
Hardly here — and yet I feel you
brush my skin as words drop by
like rain on paper seeping out through
every half-torn page of sky
So I drift and read the tarot
map a route from star to star
while heaven’s vast the vale is narrow
though you dream close it’s still too far
I feel I’m inbetween two worlds
drawn to each — a part-time lover
passion streaks my sunset’s clouds
I drift among the hearts I’ve broken
kiss the lips of those I’ve left
recalling the rash vows once spoken
joy was giving — need was theft
I cannot touch the flesh I’m missing
time has whittled to the bone
love’s old well’s too deep for wishing
these stranger days I drink alone
Hardly here — and yet I feel you
brush my skin as words drop by
like rain on paper seeping out through
every half-torn page of sky
So I drift and read the tarot
map a route from star to star
while heaven’s vast the vale is narrow
though you dream close it’s still too far
