Drafting A Poem (Poetry)

Write it down —
write it all down —
then see what you’ve got
in amongst the roughed-out lines
there’ll be a phrase you’ll spot
that stands out streets
above the rest
a certain truth — profound
and that’s the one you’ll chose to build
the other words around

It is the hook
that catches thought
as it goes drifting past
imagination worms away
till satisfied at last
finds its rhythm
finds its form
falls into natural song
welling up from fathoms deep
like it hummed there
                        all along
