Dream House (Poetry)
26th January 2026
The house I thought to one day own
has vanished brick by brick
the tender grass remains unsown
Time’s played its sneak-thief trick
Imagined paths wind deep between
trees growing by a lake
the seasons varied moods of green
reflect a hollow ache
Located in the might-have-beens
the vision of it lies
filed among the ‘one day’ schemes
along with wistful sighs
I’ve kept the blueprint in my mind
and wished the future might
reveal some fortune luck-assigned
though faith in truth was slight
Funds insufficient dogged the years
from room to rented room
as disappointment fostered fears
and shadows wove their gloom
Dream castles conjured in the air
rarely transform to stone
while four stout walls however bare
have proved their worth as home
has vanished brick by brick
the tender grass remains unsown
Time’s played its sneak-thief trick
Imagined paths wind deep between
trees growing by a lake
the seasons varied moods of green
reflect a hollow ache
Located in the might-have-beens
the vision of it lies
filed among the ‘one day’ schemes
along with wistful sighs
I’ve kept the blueprint in my mind
and wished the future might
reveal some fortune luck-assigned
though faith in truth was slight
Funds insufficient dogged the years
from room to rented room
as disappointment fostered fears
and shadows wove their gloom
Dream castles conjured in the air
rarely transform to stone
while four stout walls however bare
have proved their worth as home
