Drought (Poetry)

26th January 2014
How it struggles in its pot
the orphan plant dust-coated and neglected
so little-watered
it thrives alone
with root energies its only comfort.

Determined. Keeping leaves
a stubborn green
it strains to catch poor light —
takes what it can
from what’s on offer.

Bides its dwindling time and dreams
of kindness — sun and rain.
Patient as love —
its mission plain —
to outlive the drought.
