Eight Glamorous Legs (Poetry)

08th June 2026
Pinned to my lapel
I wear a creature
fashioned entirely
in gilt and crystal
posed inanimate

Thin legs splayed out he
looks about to jump
or run except for
what holds him fast to
the threads of my coat

Whimsy sparkles as
though it knows the joke —
his living brothers
never this welcome
thought unattractive

provoking shudders
reluctance to touch
while evicting such
small spindly beasts
from basin or bath

But immortalize —
dress him in jewels
the ‘ugly’ fellow’s
completely transformed
to glittering pet
